Rovers manager John Eustace has reacted to speculation linking the club with a move for Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Blackburn Rovers boss John Eustace admitted he was unaware if a bid for Coventry City’s Brandon Thomas-Asante had been made, as the forward continues to be linked with a move to Ewood Park.

Rovers’ stylish 3-0 victory over Portsmouth yesterday saw the Lancashire outfit leapfrog into the top six, but the club are still keen to add another number nine to sustain a promotion push for the remainder of the season.

In pursuit of a talisman, Blackburn have been linked with a move for Coventry’s Thomas-Asante, with Sky Sports reporting on Wednesday that Rovers had submitted a £1.75 million bid for the 26-year-old.

This comes as a shock given the former West Brom forward only joined the Sky Blues last summer, but this could be an opportunity for Blackburn to secure a key target this window.

Speaking after their win over Pompey last night, John Eustace revealed that he hadn’t been told about any potential bid for Brandon Thomas-Asante, but did hold admiration for the forward.

As reported by the Lancashire Telegraph, Eustace said: “I don’t think anything is imminent in the next few days, not that I’m aware of.

“Brandon is another good player at this level. We have been linked with a lot of strikers already from the league. He’s someone with good pedigree and someone who has done well over the last few seasons.

“I don’t know if there has been a bid. I’m not aware if that’s happened and if it has, ok, brilliant.”

Brandon Thomas-Asante’s recent struggles

It’s been a difficult start to his Coventry stint for Brandon Thomas-Asante, who was usually one of the first names on the team sheet in his two years with West Brom.

The forward was largely played in the number nine position at The Hawthorns due to ravaging injuries in that position to the likes of Daryl Dike and Josh Maja, and the frontman did exceptionally well to reach 11 goals last term as Albion cemented a play-off place.

Due to financial constraints, the Baggies elected to part ways with Thomas-Asante to free up funds for other moves during the summer, and the Milton-Keynes-born man has struggled to stake a claim for regular starts given competition for places increased at the CBS Arena.

Along with struggling to nail down a starting spot, there has been confusion about where Asante’s best position is, with the forward being originally signed as a number nine under Mark Robins, but replacement coach Frank Lampard has opted to use him more on the flanks, with this uncertainty reducing his ability to settle.

This has seen the former Salford City player record only one goal and as many assists from 25 Championship games, with such irregular contributions already casting doubts about his future.

Brandon Thomas-Asante can play key role in Blackburn Rovers promotion push

If a move gets finalised, Brandon Thomas-Asante definitely has the attributes to play a key role for Blackburn’s push for a top six spot.

His unwavering work rate and lightening pace has previously given second tier defenders nightmares, and a consistent run of game time up front could see the goals return from his time at West Brom.

Creating stability in a new environment will be key to seeing Thomas-Asante thrive again, and such a shrewd piece of business in January could be the difference maker for Blackburn having a shot at Premier League football if this deal can get over the line.
