Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has reportedly opened talks to sign Jonathan David on a free transfer at the end of the season, as the Lille striker’s contract is set to expire in June 2025.

With 26 goals scored from 47 games played for the French side last season across all competitions, the Canada international drew interest from several elite European clubs, including several Italian outfits.

Juventus’s Giuntoli opens talks for demanding free agent

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Bianconeri director Giuntoli has initiated contacts with the player’s representatives to understand the potential fees of the deal.

Despite leaving Lille as a free agent, signing Jonathan David would still entail significant spending.

Back in the summer, Lille were ready to sell him for a fee in the region of €20-25m, but his agent reportedly asked for a €5m signing bonus last summer, which added to a wage demand nearing €6m per season.

Many teams backed off following such requests, but the agent’s commission could even be higher next summer, when the player will be able to sign for free.

However, Juventus’ decision on whether to complete the deal will depend on Dusan Vlahovic’s performances this season – the Serbian striker has scored two goals so far from his first five Serie A matches under Thiago Motta, but talks with the club to renew his contract, which expires in June 2026, are currently stalling.
