Weston McKennie has offered a significant update on his dubious future at Juventus after an impressive start under new boss Thiago Motta. During his latest interview with Corriere dello Sport, McKennie confirmed he intends to stay at the Allianz Stadium ‘as long as possible.’

I am happy at Juventus, I like living in Turin, I’ve been here for four years and want to stay for as long as possible, but it also depends on the club,” the USMNT midfielder said. “I don’t even know if we have started talking about a contract renewal.

McKennie renewed his contract with Juventus until 2026 in August. However, he was the subject of wild transfer speculation in the summer, drawing interest from numerous foreign clubs, including several Major League Soccer outfits.

Indeed, Toronto FC and FC Cincinnati were reportedly keen on luring the 26-year-old back to his homeland. But, negotiations with Juventus never gained momentum, resulting in the former Schalke star remaining in Turin against expectations.

Motta has given the versatile midfielder the benefit of the doubt this season. That has proved a massive hit. McKennie has made ten Serie A appearances, tallying a goal and two assists. His versatility has helped the new Juventus boss navigate a substantial injury crisis.

With the record-time Italian champions pursuing a deal for unsettled Newcastle United ace Sandro Tonali, McKennie’s future is in doubt again. The ex-Milan talisman is reportedly eager to return to Serie A after less than two years in England, with Juventus emerging as potential candidates to offer him an escape route from St James’ Park.
