City winger Kerolin says it’s a dream to be playing UEFA Women’s Champions League for Manchester City and is determined to try to make history.
We face Chelsea in the first leg of our quarter-final at the Joie Stadium on Wednesday 19 March, with kick-off scheduled at 20:00 (UK).
Kerolin, who joined City from National Women’s Soccer League club North Carolina Courage in January, could get her first taste of European football.
And the Brazilian international is excited about the opportunity of trying to help City into the last-four since the 2017/18 season.
“I’m really happy and excited, it’s kind of like a dream,” the winger said in her pre-match news conference.
“But I need to be really focused on how to help the team. Now is the time to make history. We’re ready for that and will try to do our best.”
The clash will be the second of four successive matches against the London club with our Super Women’s League fixture on Sunday followed by the Champions League second leg four days later.
Chelsea won the first encounter when they lifted the Subway League Cup following a 2-1 win at Derby’s Pride Park.
Kerolin says the players can take a lot from the performance as we caused the league leaders plenty of problems in a narrow defeat.
“It is hard because when we look back to the game we played really well,” she added.
“You can never understand football because we played really well but we didn’t score.
“We need to keep doing what we’re doing and when we get to the final third we need to make better decisions. That’s how we’re going to win the game, scoring goals.”
Chelsea remain unbeaten in all competitions this season ahead of the trip to Manchester with the league fixture at the Etihad Stadium.
Kerolin knows how difficult it is to face Sonia Bompastor’s side but says they are ready for the challenge.
“We always want to win but we knew it would be hard,” she said. “We were working to do different things in different ways to hurt Chelsea.
“It’s not going to be easy but we’re ready and we will try our best to win. But now we’re at home and it will be special.”
