Paris Saint-Germain are delighted to announce the signing of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The 23-year-old winger, who will wear the number 7 shirt, becomes the first Georgian player in the club's history.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 12 February 2001, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was 11 years old when he joined local club Dinamo Tbilisi in 2012. The young left winger worked his way through the ranks before making his debut in the Erovnuli Liga (Georgian league) in September 2017, in a match against Kolkheti 1913 Poti, where he stood out by delivering an assist.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia joined FC Roustavi on a free transfer on 20 March 2018, before going out on loan to Lokomotiv Moscow for half a season in 2019. In search of playing time, he signed for Rubin Kazan in the summer of 2019, where he emerged as one of the most promising talents in the Russian league, scoring 9 goals and providing 18 assists in 73 appearances. The following year, the Georgian continued to impress with Dinamo Batumi, scoring 8 goals and providing 2 assists in 11 appearances.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's meteoric rise continued when he joined SSC Napoli in July 2022. Within the first month of competition, his fine performances earned him the Serie A Player of the Month award for August 2022, thanks in particular to his first goal and assist against Hellas Verona, followed by a brace against AC Monza. On the European stage, the Georgian also proved decisive with an assist in his first Champions League match against Liverpool.
Italian champions in his first season, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and his team-mates helped Napoli end a 33-year drought. Crowned Best Player and Best Assister in Serie A, as well as Best Young Player in the Champions League, the Georgian international finished 17th in the Ballon d'Or, showing the full extent of his talent. During his time at Napoli, he made 107 appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 29 assists in all competitions, becoming a real benchmark in his position.
Paris Saint-Germain's new attacker, who becomes the first Georgian player in the club's history (bringing the number of nationalities represented to 50), has also been a real pillar of his national team for the last 6 years. After being called up to various categories of the Georgian national team, he made his first senior team appearance on 7 June 2019, in a match against Gibraltar. The left winger has now made 40 appearances for his country, scoring 17 goals and providing 9 assists. Recently called up to take part in Euro 2024, he was one of the key figures in Georgia's fine run to the last 16.
“It's a dream to be here. I've heard a lot of very positive things about Paris Saint-Germain. I feel immense pride in joining this great club and I'm really looking forward to wearing my new colours”, said Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
'We are delighted to welcome Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to the Paris Saint-Germain family. Khvicha is one of the most exciting players in world football - a fantastic talent, but also a player who has courage and fights for the team above all else. Khvicha was so determined to be part of our great club. I know he will achieve all his goals with us. We are delighted to be strengthening our squad and continuing to make the team the star of Paris Saint-Germain', said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, President of Paris Saint-Germain.
