Tottenham will face Bodo Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night in the first leg of the Europa Leagu semifinals, and it looks like they will have to plan on getting a result at home without star man Son Heung-min.

Son has been shut down for the last couple of weeks with a nagging foot injury. Previously, he was trying to play through the pain, but Spurs shut him down, realizing how poorly he was playing. Bayern Munich loanee Mathys Tel has replaced the Premier League icon in the Tottenham starting lineup and shown significantly more ability to change games than the 32-year-old.

There was a little bit of hope that Son could potentially play against Bodo Glimt this Thursday, but, overall, most indications were that the South Korean superstar would miss the Europa League fixture. At best, he would be a game-time decision on the day of the matchup.

Son Heung-min didn't practice on Wednesday

It's starting to look like Son's fate for Thursday's game has already been decided, as the Evening Standard's Dan Kilpatrick and other Tottenham beat writers are reporting that Son Heung-min has missed training with his teammates on Wednesday before the game and thus looks set to be out entirely.

That puts more on Tel's plate, as the young left winger is now a major key to victory against a Bodo Glimt back line that is weaker on the right side than the left. Tel is a serious talent, and with a strong performance against Bodo Glimt in Son's absence, he can play himself into a future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Another player who may be tasked to step up against Bodo Glimt is Brennan Johnson. The young Tottenham winger is actually Spurs leading scorer this season above the likes of James Maddison and Son, but his all-around play has become an increasing point of criticism this year.

Son's Tottenham future hangs in the balance

Although Son has been struggling in 2025, the veteran forward has been involved in so many important fixtures over the years, particularly in the knockout stages of big tournaments. Look no further than when Spurs reached the 2018 Champions League Final against Liverpool without Harry Kane and Son has the main protagonist.

Son's future at Tottenham hangs in the balance with offers from the Saudi Pro League and a sense that he may be declining. A new manager and renewed health should help, though, and Tottenham fans will wish him the best in his recovery.
