Lautaro Martinez showed his leadership for Inter Milan even despite not managing to score against Monza yesterday.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez thought that he’d found the back of the net early on yesterday against Monza.
The Argentine turned the ball in in the first half.
However, the VAR showed that Martinez had actually handled the ball just before scoring. After determining that the 27-year-old had controlled with his hand, the goal didn’t stand.
Then, Martinez played a decisive role in Inter’s winning goal in the second half. He was putting Giorgios Kyriakopoulos under pressure as the Greek turned the ball into his own net.
But Lautaro Martinez did not get his name on the scoresheet.
That was perhaps a bit surprising. Inter are certainly used to their captain bailing them out in matches like yesterday’s.

However, even without the goal, Martinez was as decisive as ever.
The Argentine’s defensive workrate was certainly evident. He led the line with his usual intensity.
And in the closing stages Martinez’s tracking back was particularly notable.
