Three very important points for Inter at San Siro against Empoli, on MD 21 of the championship. The Nerazzurri played a good match, winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Lautaro, Dumfries and Thuram. The victory against the Tuscans brings several statistical curiosities and interesting insights:
An extraordinary run of form for Simone Inzaghi's team. Inter have scored 51 goals in the 20 matches played in this league: equalling the best result in terms of goals scored at this point in the Serie A tournament since 1960, set in 2021/22. Furthermore, in the last eight league games, the Nerazzurri have collected 22 points out of 24, scoring 25 goals (an average of over three per match) and conceding four.
A goal from outside the box, a powerful and precise right-footer that unblocked the match against Empoli. The Nerazzurri captain continues to demonstrate all his talent and leadership, and this is reflected in the figures: with 111 goals, he has equalled the 2nd best foreign scorer in Inter's history in Serie A, Mauro Icardi, and is now only behind Stefano Nyers (133).
It's Denzel's name once again among the scorers. That's five goals scored by Denzel Dumfries in this league: he has equalled his best tally in an entire Serie A season, five in 2021/22. Only in 2019/20 with PSV did he do better, when he scored seven goals. The Dutch player has scored four goals in 2025 in all competitions, more than any other player in Serie A this calendar year.
His goal minutes before the final whistle sealed the deal, giving Inter a valuable victory. Having now become a key player in the development of the Nerazzurri's plays, Marcus Thuram has reached an important milestone: he was involved in 100 goals in the five major European leagues, scoring 72 goals and serving 28 assists. With 13 goals in 21 appearances in this season, the French striker has equalled his number for the entire Serie A season last year. Numbers that highlight his extraordinary form.
Quantity and quality, everywhere and for the whole ninety minutes. Nicolò Barella has put in yet another extraordinary performance against Empoli. This season, the Nerazzurri midfielder is becoming decisive, especially in the last twenty metres: since the beginning of December 2024, he has played an active part in five Serie A goals, with two goals and three assists. No midfielder in the league has done better in the period.
