The future of Adam Marusic at Lazio remains up in the air, even though the two parties have an agreement in principle.
The Montenegrin full-back is reportedly next in line on the Biancocelesti’s list for a contract extension, especially with his current deal expiring at the end of the season (June 2024).
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), a meeting took place in the past few days between the club’s directors and the agents of the 32-year-old player. As the source explains, the two parties already had a basic agreement over a renewal, and yet, the signatures haven’t arrived, thus raising doubts over the defender’s fate.
The Roman newspaper suggests that the recurring delays are leaving the door open for a potential exit at the end of the season, as the full-back is already free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any other club since he’s running on an expiring contract. Therefore, it remains to be seen if the club will manage to finalize this operation in the coming weeks and put the matter to bed.
Marusic has been a loyal servant to the Lazio cause since 2017. He also remains a key figure in Marco Baroni’s plans, especially due to his ability to cover both flanks and offer vital contributions on both ends of the pitch.
On Monday, the veteran made his 300th appearance for the club in the 1-1 draw against Udinese. This was commemorated by a special award delivered by Lazio President Claudio Lotito. He has thus far scored 13 goals in Biancocelesti colors, including three this season.
