FLW compare the net worth of Coventry City and Leeds United's owners ahead of Saturday's game at Elland Road.

Leeds United host Coventry City at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon in what is a contest between two of the early season promotion favourites.

This weekend’s contest also marks a fixture between the last two season’s beaten play-off finalists, who each have plenty of quality players on their respective sides to call upon after impressive years at second tier level. That's despite falling short of their goal of promotion.

The Whites now find themselves sixth in the Championship, just five points adrift of West Brom at the top of the league table after losing to Southampton in the final last season. They are showing few signs of a hangover, as they head into the game against Cov off the back of three wins in the last four league fixtures.

Coventry, on the other hand, have won just once this season from six games in total in the league, including losing and drawing in each of their last four games. They are hoping for another promotion push of their own but have started the season in their usual slow fashion under Mark Robins.

His side could only manage a ninth-placed finish last season but the Sky Blues were and still are, to a certain extent, seen as among the main teams most fancied for at least a play-off berth in the 2024/25 campaign. The Sky Blues also fared well in this fixture last season, as they picked up a point at Elland Road and won in the reverse fixture back in April.

Not only are quality players and managers key to the success or failure of a team, but their ownership as well. Here, we take a look at how their owners compare in terms of net worth.

49ers Enterprises took full control of the Whites following their relegation from the Premier League. And, after a protracted process that impacted their summer transfer window, they were given ratification from the EFL. It took some time, but it allowed them to conduct transfer business and formulate a squad that eventually finished third with 90 points under Farke's tutelage.

Of course, losing in the play-offs saw them lose key players over the summer. However, they are building in the right direction in the eyes of many, and Leeds have a strong squad again for a promotion push after further investment in the summer window of 2024.

Leeds' investors have also been joined by other famous faces, with the likes of Jordan Spieth also taking particular interest in the club following the takeover of 49ers Enterprises, alongside huge names in American sports, such as Michael Phelps and Larry Nance. Will Ferrell is among the latest to invest alongside actor and Leeds fan, Russell Crowe.

In terms of their net worth, according to Forbes, the investment arm of the 49ers is worth a staggering $5.97B (£4.79B) and they are the 11th richest sports entity on the globe at the time that figure was estimated. More recent figures from Christina Gough in Statista have suggested the franchise value amounts to $6B now.

It's certainly been a topsy-turvy last decade for the former Premier League club, who have been as low as League Two and as high as an FA Cup semi-final. In November 2022, Doug King purchased an 85% stake in the now Championship club, which eventually became 100% two months later.

Later that year, Coventry would heartbreakingly lose the richest game in football on penalties, denying them a first return to the top-flight since 2001. Not only did this cost them their return to the Premier League, but it reportedly saw them lose out on between £135 million and £265 million in winnings.

Alongside his commitments with his Championship football club, King is CEO of two businesses on top of this. The first of which is a sustainable farming organisation called Yelo. King is said to be heavily invested in the business, reportedly pumping over £70 million into the company to help develop its infrastructure.

The Coventry local is also CEO of RCMA Capital LLP, which oversees investments of over $400 million. All of this has led to him obtaining an estimated net worth of $400 million. Whilst this isn't a fully accurate figure, it will certainly be in the ballpark of what the Yelo CEO is worth.
