Dani Olmo's temporary registration with Barcelona will expire in early April, at which point a decision on the legal case will have to be made.

Having seen Olmo's emergency registration expire on December 31 alongside that of teammate Pau Victor, Barcelona found themselves forced to turn to the Spanish government for help after La Liga highlighted the rule forbidding teams from registering players more than once across a single season.

Barcelona argued to the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) that they should have been able to register Olmo and Victor again before their initial agreements expired, and both players were ultimately awarded temporary registrations as the CSD decided the case was worth listening to.

As noted by The Athletic, those temporary licenses are limited to three months, meaning both Olmo and Victor will be able to play for Barcelona until at least early April.

The ruling gives the CSD time to examine what is a significant body of evidence from Barcelona. The Super Cup winners are believed to have submitted a dossier with over 60 supporting documents, while La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) will also be invited to defend their decisions to block the initial requests for registration.

La Liga have already lodged an appeal of the decision to award the temporary registrations, which could add fresh complications to the entire situation.

Barcelona could play as many as 22 games across those three months, with the temporary registrations of Olmo and Victor due to run out before the Champions League quarter-finals get underway on April 8/9.
