Liverpool didn't get off to the perfect start against West Ham United, but Federico Chiesa produced a stunning moment on his full debut.

It started as a frustrating beginning to the evening for the League Cup holders on Wednesday night at Anfield.

Arne Slot made a raft of changes ahead of the game, meaning it was a heavily rotated starting XI that lined-up on the night.

And you could feel a bit of rustiness in the legs of some of the players as they struggled to get going from the off.

West Ham were far more dominant in the opening few minutes, but Liverpool came back into the tie and looked more comfortable as the game went on.

By the end they were dominating with plenty of players catching the eye, including Chiesa, who was making his first start for the Reds.

Liverpool players ratings vs West Ham United

Caoimhin Kelleher - He wasn't really tested in the game and could not do much about West Ham's opening goal. 6/10.

Conor Bradley - Made some lively runs in the game and always looked solid defensively as well. Won a lot of duels. 6/10.

Jarell Quansah - Overall, his first half was mired by that unfortunate own goal which, in fairness to Quansah, he could not do much about. Other than that, he was composed and solid. 5/10.

Joe Gomez - The Liverpool captain on the night was also composed and solid. Made some good forward passes in possession. 6/10.

Kostas Tsimikas - Didn't put a foot wrong either and grew into the game like everybody else. Put in some dangerous crosses and won a lot of duels. 6/10.

Wataru Endo - There's been a lot of talk about his future at the club and the pressure was on Endo tonight. He didn't do himself any favours forcing the own goal by smashing the ball at Quansah but grew into the game. 6/10.

Curtis Jones - Composed and elegant on the ball. Set-up Jota's second goal beautifully and tormented West Ham's midfield. 7/10.

Cody Gakpo - Looked promising in patches and could have scored even more but left his best moments until the very end. 7/10.

Diogo Jota - A well taken brace, Jota looks back to his clinical self, with two goals from two shots, which is great news for Liverpool. 7/10.

Federico Chiesa - The best player in the first half, Chiesa was constantly running and taking players on. Set-up a brilliant goal with his acrobatic effort and looked lively in the second-half as well. 7/10.

Darwin Nunez - Some really nice touches here and there from the Uruguayan. Lively, as always, and caused West Ham plenty of problems. 6/10.

Subs:

Mohamed Salah - Came on with no point to prove but Salah still made one with a great goal. A solid cameo. 7/10.

Alexis Mac Allister - Not really involved when he came on but he was still his usual composed self. 5/10.

Tyler Morton - Didn't really get enough minutes to showcase what he is about. But it was great to see him playing for Liverpool again. 5/10

Andy Robertson - A very brief cameo from the Scotsman but he did what he had to. 5/10.
