Liverpool’s relentless march towards the Premier League title continues, and with the business end of the season approaching, Arne Slot’s squad is edging closer to full strength. A 2-0 victory at Manchester City last weekend reinforced their credentials, stretching their lead at the top and underlining their ability to control big occasions.
However, injuries have played their part this season, and while there was a boost with Cody Gakpo’s return, concerns remain over Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez. Here’s the latest update on Liverpool’s injury situation.
After missing games against Wolves and Aston Villa, Gakpo made a brief return in the final moments of the City clash. Slot admitted before the game that the Dutch forward was a “close call” for selection, but his late cameo suggests he is fit enough to be involved from the start against Newcastle.

With Liverpool looking to maintain their attacking fluidity, Gakpo’s return offers another valuable option in the forward line. His ability to link play and make intelligent runs will be crucial as the Reds navigate a demanding schedule.
For Conor Bradley, this campaign has been a case of opportunity mixed with frustration. Handed a rare chance to impress due to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury, the young right-back was forced off almost immediately after coming on against Aston Villa.
Slot was cautious when addressing Bradley’s situation, stating: “He still has to come in, so we don’t know yet. I would be completely surprised if he’s involved in the Sunday game, or the Wednesday game against Newcastle. You can assume that’s not going to happen.”

With no confirmed return date, Liverpool will hope his absence does not drag on too long, especially with the team needing cover for the final stretch of the season.
Joe Gomez’s situation is the most concerning of all. The defender suffered a hamstring injury against West Ham, attempted a return in the FA Cup against Plymouth, and lasted just 10 minutes before pulling up again.

Slot confirmed the worst fears, saying: “Joe had surgery for his hamstring injury, so he’s out for a long time. He will be back maybe just before the end of the season.”
With his return pencilled in for May, Liverpool will need to manage their defensive options carefully in his absence.
