Manchester City make the trip to Ipswich Town this weekend for the first Premier League meeting between the teams at Portman Road since 2001.
Pep Guardiola’s side saw their three-game winning run ended in midweek, after blowing a two-goal lead to draw at Brentford. The result leaves the Citizens sixth in the table, three points behind Newcastle in the fourth and final Champions League place.
City head to Ipswich buoyed by big news this week. Erling Haaland has recommitted his future to the club with a stunning nine-and-a-half year deal. Haaland’s new contract has seen the removal of any release clause.
Ipswich were beaten in midweek and remain in the relegation places by virtue of goals scored. The Tractor Boys will hope leading scorer Liam Delap can fire them to an upset win against his former team. Loanee Kalvin Phillips is ineligible to face his parent club.
Kyle Walker was not involved in the draw at Brentford as the City captain pushes for an exit. AC Milan have held talks over a deal to sign the wantaway Walker this month.
He’s unlikely to feature, while Rodri and Ruben Dias are ruled out. The clash is also expected to come too soon for John Stones and Oscar Bobb. Rico Lewis could return to replace Matheus Nunes at right-back.
It remains to be seen whether Guardiola rotates ahead of a crunch clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Manchester City predicted XI: Ortega; Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Gundogan; Foden, De Bruyne, Doku; Haaland.
Ipswich Town host Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday 19th January 2025. Kick-off at Portman Road is 16:30 GMT.
The game will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Ultra HDR.
