Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia is set to join PSV Eindhoven on loan before the transfer deadline, according to Voetbal International.

The Netherlands international returned from a long-term injury lay-off in November but has since struggled to impress under manager Ruben Amorim.

Malacia has looked short of pace after a 17-month absence, and the Red Devils have decided to loan him out after purchasing Lecce star Patrick Dorgu.

Loan talks did not materialise with Benfica for Malacia last week, but the Dutchman is now ‘on his way’ to Eindhoven for the remainder of the campaign.

United will hope Malacia can find his feet

The 25-year-old joined the Red Devils from Feyenoord in 2022. He was manager Erik ten Hag’s first signing and was described as a ‘modern‘ full-back.

However, his career with United has been a mixed bag. Malacia was in and out of the team under Ten Hag before being sidelined for a lengthy period.

It was anticipated that he could revive his career under Amorim, but he has failed to adapt to the higher intensity of the Premier League after his lay-off.

A return to the Eredivisie could be a good thing for Malacia. The Dutchman built his reputation as a robust defender during his formative years at Feyenoord.

United will hope that he can find his feet with PSV over the coming months so that they can recoup the £13 million fee paid for him during the summer.

Malacia’s departure will likely coincide with Luke Shaw’s return from a muscle injury. The Englishman will be reintroduced on the pitch at some stage this month.
