The January transfer window presents Ruben Amorim with his first opportunity to shape Manchester United according to his vision. However, the major signings are expected to come next summer, with reports suggesting Amorim is eyeing a key player from Paris Saint-Germain.

One successful summer addition, Manuel Ugarte, has already impressed under Amorim’s guidance since joining from PSG. Now, speculation is growing around Amorim’s interest in reuniting with Nuno Mendes, a player he previously coached at Sporting Lisbon.

According to CaughtOffside, United is still interested in the 22-year-old left-back, who is reportedly open to the move following talks with his representatives. If Mendes decides not to extend his contract at PSG, the French club could entertain offers of around €70 million in the summer.

Journalist Duncan Castles reports that PSG haven’t received any offers for Mendes yet, but they are aware of Manchester United’s interest as the left-back and Bruno Fernandes share the same agent.

CaughtOffside reported on Sunday, citing sources, that Manchester United are in ongoing talks to sign Mendes. However, Real Madrid and Manchester City have also started showing interest in the Portugal international.

At the moment, United appear to be the most advanced in their pursuit, but they haven’t made significant progress in negotiations. PSG are reportedly holding out for €65 million despite Mendes being under contract until 2026.

Real Madrid need a new left-back; they seem to be shifting focus away from Alphonso Davies as the Canadian is now leaning toward extending his contract with Bayern Munich.
