Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has his heart set on a loan move to Barcelona before the January transfer deadline on Monday, and he has rejected offers from several other clubs including Tottenham Hotspur because of his determination to join the La Liga club, according to the Guardian.
However, a deal for the Man United star to join Barca will only go through if the Spanish club can offload up to two players.
They are prepared in principle to cover most or all of Rashford’s £375,000-a-week salary until the end of the season, but Barca have to generate funds to be able to spend the money required to complete the deal due to La Liga’s squad cost limit rules.
Man United head coach Ruben Amorim is ready for the England international to move on having not involved him in matches since December 12, but there is very little time left in the window for the 27-year-old to seal his dream move to the Catalan club.
Man United would be interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel as his replacement should Rashford leave, but they will face competition from Spurs and Aston Villa for the Frenchman.
It remains to be seen whether Barca can get two players out before Monday, but the Red Devils academy graduate may need a plan B and prepare to join another club if a move to Spain falls through, or opt to remain at the Old Trafford club beyond the window and convince Amorim that he still has what it takes to play for him.
Rashford needs a fresh challenge elsewhere as it appears he has lost the passion to play for Man United, and a departure this window or in the summer will be in the best interest of both club and player.
He has been urged by Wayne Rooney to leave the club, and it is a piece of advice he needs to heed if he wants to get his career back on track.
