Manchester City have announced the departure of head coach Gareth Taylor just five days before the Subway Women’s League Cup final.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via a media update from The Cityzens this evening.

Taylor leaves his position after spending almost five years as head coach of the women’s team. In his time in charge, Taylor guided Manchester City to success in both the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and Subway Women’s League Cup. Despite many bright moments on the pitch, Taylor failed to deliver the Barclays Women’s Super League title, although his side took the title race down to the final day on more than one occasion.

Manchester City have parted company with Taylor three years on from the club’s last trophy success. The Cityzens have the opportunity to end their trophy drought when they face Chelsea in the Subway Women’s League Cup final on Saturday.

After Taylor’s departure was announced, Manchester City’s Managing Director, Charlotte O’Neill said “Manchester City prides itself on competing at the top of the WSL and on its outstanding record of qualifying for European competition. Unfortunately, results this season have so far not reached this high standard.

“With six games of the WSL campaign remaining, we believe that a change of management will breathe fresh life into our bid to ensure qualification for the 2025/2026 UEFA Women’s Champions League.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Gareth for all of his efforts during his many years at City. Our FA Cup and League Cup triumphs will remain special moments in the history of this football club.

“We wish him all the best for the future.”

Former Manchester City boss Nick Cushing has returned to the club to take interim charge of the team until the end of the season.
