Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento is on Manchester City’s transfer shortlist when it comes to their planned investment in the right-back position, according to reports.
The wide defensive role is set to be one of a number of positions placed under the microscope by Txiki Begiristain and Hugo Viana over the course of the coming weeks and months, with the latter taking on the sporting director role from June.
It follows four completed arrivals into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad during the winter market as Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis arrived from RC Lens and Palmeiras respectively to strengthen the rearguard.
There was also deadline day activity as midfielder Nico Gonzalez arrived from FC Porto in a big-money move, adding to the top-level investment that was made on Omar Marmoush’s transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt for the forward line.
But among the positions to be scrutinised and assessed for potential investment in the summer market is right-back, largely following on from Kyle Walker’s loan move to AC Milan until the end of the campaign, which includes an option to buy.
And according to the information of The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Manchester City will target both a right-back and central midfielder as part of their summer rebuild on top of investment during the winter market.
It is revealed that Etihad Stadium officials hold a firm interest in Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso and Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento after his progress at St James’ Park, while a “No 8” midfielder is expected to be assessed to add competition to Pep Guardiola’s ranks.
The Italian defender was tipped for Manchester City transfer interest during the winter transfer window, but rumours were ultimately played down despite admiration for the player’s talents seemingly being correct.
It is widely believed that the Turin club would aim for a fee in the region of €75 million for the Italy international, while the central midfield position could see City revive interest in the likes of Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes.
However, it is unlikely that St James’ Park officials would sanction two key sales to the Premier League champions in one go, unless the financial offering from the Etihad Stadium was simply too good to turn down and the player’s showed a keen interest in the switch.
