Manchester United manager has given injury updates on multiple players who missed Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City at Leigh Sports Village.
United extended their winning run to a seventh league game courtesy of first-half strikes from Melvine Malard and Leah Galton.
The Red Devils weren’t at full strength, with in-form striker Elisabeth Terland the most notable absentee but luckily, she wasn’t missed too much as Malard led the line effectively.
In addition to getting on the score sheet, Malard also provided the assist for Galton’s goal.
Other players who were not available to Skinner for selection included Jayde Riviere, Simi Awujo, Anna Sandberg and Lisa Naalsund.
After the final whistle, Skinner explained why the mentioned players were absent.
He said, “Teri took a small break to her wrist, but you can manage these things with splints and so on. We’re hopeful she can potentially come back over the next couple of weeks.”
On Awujo and Riviere, the 41-year-old coach remarked, “Jayde was a muscle injury. She played two games back-to-back [for Canada] and you’ve got to look at loading, which is disappointing for us.”
“Simi took a knock in training, which again happens. But, for me, it’s about ensuring they come back.”
Sandberg missed the meeting with Leicester because of a sickness bug. It’s understood there is optimism that Naalsund will return “very soon” after being sidelined since November.
Skinner added, “It’s really important that as they go away on international duty, they return as best they can be, because they want play this exciting end to the season.”
United are back in action on Saturday when they host Sunderland in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
