Manchester United Might Not Be Able To Sign World Class Striker: Why Is It A Worry For United?

Manchester United have been in dismal form this season in the Premier League, and nothing have gone well for them. However, they can make amends by winning the UEFA Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League next season. However, the weaknesses are quite evident, as the Red Devils have struggled with the lack of a reliable goalscorer. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not provided the impact, and hence, United need a world-class striker in the summer.
Ruben Amorim’s club have been linked to a number of strikers, and one of them is Viktor Gyokeres. The Sporting CP man has been one of the best strikers in recent times and also has experience of playing under Amorim when he was the manager of Sporting.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that United are very interested in the Swede, but his signing will be dependent on the financial fair play. He has a release clause of €100 million, but Sporting might accept a fee of €60-70 million. Romano has reported that nothing is concrete as of yet, but Arsenal do have the advantage because they are sure to play in the Champions League next season, and the same can’t be said for United as of now.
“Nothing is decided so far. Man United but also Arsenal remain keen. For Man United, the Financial Fair Play budget will be crucial to understand how much they can spend on a striker.”
Gyokeres has scored 38 goals in 30 matches so far in the Liga NOS 2024/2025 season. 17 of the 38 goals were scored at home, while he scored 21 goals in away games. Overall, Gyokeres’s goals scored per 90 minutes is 1.35. Moreover, Gyokeres’s total G/A (goals + assists) is 44 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 1.56 per 90 minutes, and his non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.83.
Viktor Gyokeres is the kind of striker every team wants—a powerful, relentless forward with a real eye for goal. He is fast, strong, and fearless when it comes to taking on defenders. Whether the Swede is holding up the ball to bring others into play or bursting through on the counter, Gyokeres always looks like he’s on the verge of scoring. His aggression and confidence set him apart, and he is the sort of player who can change a game in an instant.
For Manchester United, Gyokeres will be more than just a good option—he could be the solution they’ve been searching for. With a staggering 52 goals in one season and a clear understanding with manager Rúben Amorim, there is already a blueprint for success. Add to that United’s need for a reliable finisher, and it’s easy to see why he’s being talked about as a top target. Even with a price tag between £60–70 million, Gyokeres feels like a bargain—especially if he is the one to finally bring firepower back to United’s attack.
