Inter president Giuseppe Marotta has responded to Paolo Scaroni’s comments about AC Milan being the only team in the city.

Scaroni spoke at the unveiling of the ‘125 years of Milan’ photobook at the Milan Flagship Store in Via Dante in the city centre last night. He was asked about what it means to be the president of Milan, among other things, and aimed a jab at Inter.

“[…] And look at me now, after so many years, I am the president of the only team in Milan. Let’s be honest: there’s only one real team in Milan. It gives me an incredible feeling,” he said.

Marotta received the Liedholm Award and he was asked by SportMediaset what he thought of Scaroni’s comments, with his response relayed by MilanNews.

“It depends on the point of view. If he represents the only team in Milan, it’s because we represent something even superior. But I don’t want to create controversy, Paolo is a friend. There are two stars on my tie, I hope that Milan can soon add them too,” he said.

They are of course good natured media jibes between the pair, who know each other very well from their dealings with Serie A over the years, but it must provide a burning motivation to answer back after the Nerazzurri win their 20th title last season.
