Michel Vorm discussed the fortunes of two of the Championship's high-profile goalkeepers
Former Swansea City and Spurs goalkeeper Michel Vorm has praised Championship goalkeepers Illan Meslier and James Trafford, tipping them to improve and enjoy big futures in the game.
Meslier and Trafford are two of the Championship's most high-profile goalkeepers, and at the ages of 24 and 22 respectively, they still have their best years ahead of them.
However, it's not always been plain-sailing for the pair, and Meslier has come under fire this season for making a number of high-profile errors which have cost Leeds United points, and some supporters have called for him to be dropped.
Meanwhile, Trafford endured a tough campaign in the Premier League last season and was part of a Burnley side that was relegated from the Premier League, and he was actually dropped in favour of Arijanet Muric towards the end of the season.
Despite this, former Dutch international Vorm is a big fan of both players, and believes they'll improve thanks to their experiences in the Championship.
Whilst he may have never played in the Championship, Vorm certainly knows what he's talking about when it comes to English goalkeepers, having spent nine years in England with Swansea City and Spurs respectively, and he likes what he's seen from Meslier and Trafford.
Speaking to Football League World via 888sport, Vorm said: "Both of them are talented goalkeepers. Both are young and have played in the Premier League and are gaining huge experiences.
"Meslier has more experience, playing in front of a passionate Leeds home crowd every week, he has the tools to now step up and improve even further. Yes, he has made some mistakes this season, but he can continue to grow with each game he plays.
"Leeds are doing very well in the Championship, and it’s a credit to Meslier that he is number one and can show why in the run in to the end of the season.
"Trafford is younger, but has still played a lot of games. This is excellent for a young keeper, to get up to the speed of the game and perform well.
"His record this season is excellent and can be a key part of why Burnley progress."
Promotion is certainly the aim for both Leeds and Burnley this season, and while there's a long way to go yet, they're well-placed to make a return to the top-flight.
Of course, both Meslier and Trafford have experienced Premier League football in the past, and that will make them even hungrier to get back to the top-flight and ply their trade on the biggest stage.
After a difficult end to the 2023/24 campaign with Burnley, Trafford has bounced back admirably this season, and the fact that Burnley have conceded just nine goals in 29 games shows how well he's performing.
Meslier has made high-profile errors, notably in away games against Sunderland and Hull City, but it's clear to see how highly he's rated by Daniel Farke, and the fact he's stuck by the Frenchman speaks volumes.
