The meeting between Milan and the entourage of Marcus Rashford didn’t lead to major progress. There are big obstacles obstructing his move to San Siro. The Rossoneri believe to have the inside track over the competition. However, the wills of the parties involved need to converge to get to the finish line, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

First of all, the Serie A needs to open up a spot on their lists with an exit. The top candidate is Noah Okafor. He has received an offer from RB Leipzig, but he’s not too convinced. Still, there are a few weeks left in the window. Samuel Chukwueze is also an option, but he’s currently hurt.

The large wages of Rashford represent the main hurdle in the talks with Milan. He makes €20M gross including image rights, about €13M net. The Rossoneri won’t shell out that much even for half a season. Manchester United don’t want to contribute to his salary after offloading him. The most likely formula would be a straight loan because an option would require a pre-agreement on his future contract.

The Italian outfit could put on the table about €3M for the remainder of the campaign. The Red Devils would have to cover the rest, and the player might have to give up something. Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are squarely in the race, Fabrizio Romano reports. Como have been linked too, but the player’s camp shot down the reports.

Our Take on Milan and Rashford

It’d be a sexy addition, but the problems seem steep. It’d be more fanfare than substance if they had no shot at retaining him permanently.
