Luka Modric has backed Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappe to win multiple Ballon d’Or awards after an impressive start to his career with the club.
Mbappe signed for Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer last summer, in the most high-profile deal of the transfer window. The French forward has overcome a mixed start to shine for the Spanish side.
He’s scored 31 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid, including 10 goals in his last nine La Liga appearances.
Mbappe is currently with the France squad as Les Bleus aim to overturn their UEFA Nations League quarter-final against Modric’s Croatia. France trail 2-0 from the first leg ahead of tonight’s tie, where Modric will take on his club teammate for a place in the finals.
Ahead of the game, Modric backed Mbappe to become recognised as the world’s best with Ballon d’Or success.
“On Kylian as a footballer, there is nothing more to say – he is one of the best players in the world,” Modrić told Téléfoot.
“He has so many abilities and honestly, it is something that I have rarely seen. But what impresses me the most about him is his personality. He is an incredible boy, very humble, always ready to crack a joke, to help his teammates. He is calm.
“Kylian, from the outside, you can say that it hasn’t been his best season but he still has over 30 goals. Imagine if he raises his level! Kylian is an incredible talent, one of the best that I have seen but as I said, what impresses me most about him is his personality because he really is an incredible boy.
“If Kylian continues to do things like this, help Real Madrid like he’s doing I’m sure he will be one of the favourites to win not one but a few Ballon d’Or.”
