Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool remains a key talking point, with the Egyptian yet to agree on a new deal as his contract nears expiration. The 32-year-old has been a pillar of Liverpool’s success, and his current form suggests he still has much to offer. With 26 goals and 18 assists in 34 appearances this season, Salah continues to deliver at the highest level.
However, despite his performances, there has been no confirmation that an extension is imminent. As CaughtOffside reports, “The Egyptian captain’s future is still yet to be decided as everyone continues to work towards an agreement over a new deal.”
The longer negotiations drag on, the more speculation arises about his next move. Saudi Arabia’s Pro League remains a lurking presence, prepared to offer Salah an exit route with substantial financial incentives. Yet, according to CaughtOffside, the Egyptian forward appears more focused on securing a renewal with Liverpool rather than entertaining a move abroad just yet.

Salah’s contract discussions are not happening in isolation. Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly monitoring the situation closely, prepared to step in if negotiations break down. “The Ligue 1 champions are said to have a three-year contract until 2028 waiting on the table and ready to be signed,” the report states.
With Kylian Mbappé expected to leave PSG in the summer, the French giants are looking for a marquee signing to fill the void. Salah would certainly fit that profile, offering them a proven goal-scorer and playmaker at the highest level. The appeal of playing in Paris, coupled with a lucrative long-term deal, could make PSG an attractive alternative if Liverpool’s offer does not meet his expectations.
Liverpool’s decision-making over Salah’s future is not just about one player. John Barnes recently stated that Virgil van Dijk should be the club’s contract priority, a sentiment echoed by many Reds fans. The Dutch centre-back remains crucial to Liverpool’s defensive stability, and ensuring his continued presence at Anfield is essential.
Then there is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been linked with Real Madrid. The Premier League leaders cannot afford to lose their vice-captain, particularly given his importance in both defence and attack. With Madrid reportedly interested, Liverpool must work to secure his long-term future.
That leaves Salah in a complicated position. As CaughtOffside notes, “When it comes to Salah, things get tricky as the winger turns 33 this year and although the Egyptian star has been in serious form this season, that could fall away rapidly at any time.” Liverpool’s hesitance likely comes from a desire to avoid a long-term financial commitment to a player who, despite his quality, is approaching the latter stages of his career.

Offering Salah a short-term deal with wages comparable to his current salary may be Liverpool’s way of safeguarding their future while still showing their appreciation for his contributions. Whether that is enough to satisfy Salah, however, remains to be seen.
Liverpool find themselves in a difficult position regarding Salah. On one hand, he is still delivering world-class performances, breaking records and leading the team’s attacking line. On the other, he turns 33 this year, and history suggests that even the best wingers experience a decline at some stage.
Some supporters believe that giving Salah a two-year extension is a no-brainer. After all, his consistency is unmatched, and he remains one of the most decisive players in world football. Others, however, argue that Liverpool must look to the future. The club has been excellent at making tough but necessary decisions in the past, such as allowing Sadio Mané to leave at the right time.
If Salah stays, it will be because he believes in the project under Arne Slot, rather than just financial incentives. If he leaves, Liverpool will need to make a significant signing to replace his output, as there are few players in world football capable of replicating his impact.
Either way, this summer promises to be crucial, not just for Salah’s future but for Liverpool’s next chapter.
