After a long summer chase, Alvaro Morata ended up having just a cup of coffee at Milan, leaving after six months to head to Galatasaray. The Spaniard explained what occurred to Marca (via Goal).

“I felt at the time that departing Atletico Madrid was what my mind and body wanted me to do, even though I think in the end the fans had managed to understand me after the Euro. They were no longer seeing me under a certain light in Spain. Still, it was my decision. I joined the Rossoneri because they had a coach who proved he really wanted me. However, their project completely changed in a short amount of time. I was no longer comfortable because I had gone there for Paulo Fonseca.”

Morata indicated why he chose Galatasaray after his Milan spell.

“It happens in football. In the end, everybody has to look out for himself. It’s easy to judge from the outside. If everything goes well, I’ll play in the Champions League next season, which is something important to me. I wanted to keep competing at the highest level in Europe, which is not easy.” “You can perceive the love for football everywhere in Turkey. The people are polite and respectful. Many Spanish footballers spoke very highly of this country, but it’s different to experience it first-hand. The truth is that I’m very happy. They are treating me in a special manner, with a lot of love and affection. I can move around more freely than in other European cities, although it’s not a knock against them. I’ve found peace and serenity.”
