Liverpool secured a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League at Anfield under tough weather conditions on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds will be disappointed with the result and the performance to go with it, but they still remain six points clear of Arsenal, having played a game less.
Liverpool came from behind to take a 2-1 lead, with goals coming from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah. But Amad Diallo scored a vital goal for the visitors in the 80th minute to leave the league leaders frustrated.
One player who was below par today for the Reds was Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roy Keane brutally criticised him at halftime on Sky Sports.
The popular pundit lambasted the right-back’s defending during the first half. United’s best chances came down Alexander-Arnold’s channel, and he was taken off in the 86th minute.
With just six months remaining on his contract at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold’s future has been heavily speculated in the media. He has been frequently linked with a move to Real Madrid who have already made an approach to sign him.
Keane jokingly said that Alexander-Arnold must forget about joining Madrid, and based on this performance alone, he is better suited to Tranmere Rovers instead.
Speaking in his half-time analysis, the Sky Sports pundit said: “We talk about how brilliant Trent is going forward.
“But Trent’s defending today, my goodness, it was like schoolboy stuff.
“They’re talking about him going to Real Madrid, the way he’s defending, he’s going to Tranmere Rovers after this. He’s got to do better.”
It was a shocking performance from the Liverpool right-back. He lost possession as many as 25 times during the game and managed only 77% of accurate passes, something we don’t generally expect from him.
He failed to make any tackle and picked up a yellow card for forcefully bringing down Bruno Fernandes. While he made four clearances, clearly he was very nervous at the back.
Virgil van Dijk was really annoyed at one point as United players kept on whipping crosses from his area.
Liverpool looked defensively more solid when Conor Bradley replaced him.
A draw against Man Utd isn’t a bad result, but Liverpool are expected to win these games, especially with the kind of form they are in.
The Reds have recovered 13 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season, as per BBC Sport. Having only fallen behind in four of their first 13 league games under Arne Slot, Liverpool have since trailed in four of their last six.
With Bradley back in the side, Liverpool should rest Alexander-Arnold for the next few games to sort his head out. He looked like someone who had his mind elsewhere, and Liverpool cannot allow that to happen.
