‘My wife told me: ‘You two are weird’ – Breel Embolo opens up on close relationship with Mika Biereth | OneFootball

Mika Biereth (22) and Breel Embolo (28) have quickly struck up a good understanding on the pitch since the former’s arrival at AS Monaco during the January transfer window. That relationship transcends the pitch, as Embolo told Nice-Matin.

Biereth has hit the ground running since joining the Principality club and he currently has 12 goals in as many games in Ligue 1. His relationship and understanding with Embolo have facilitated that rapid integration. The pair have been involved in setting goals up for each other on two occasions this season, whilst the Swiss international has been crucial in dropping deep, knitting the play and helping Biereth thrive more generally.

Embolo himself, who had been struggling prior to Biereth’s arrival, has experienced an uptick in form since the Dane’s arrival on the Côte d’Azur. Speaking ahead of Saturday’s 3-0 win over Olympique de Marseille, Embolo details his close-off pitch relationship with Biereth.

“The other evening, he called me at 17:00 because he wanted to buy a scooter… he doesn’t have a car yet. He told me: ‘Can you come to Carrefour with me?.’ I said yes and then my wife told me ‘You two are weird. You’re two guys going out to buy a scooter at 17:00.’ I got my son and we went,” said Embolo, who reveald that Biereth was in fact his neighbour in the Principality.
