Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi reflected on his side’s victory over Liverpool in the Round of 16 in the Champions League last night in an interview with CBS.
The PSG man was asked where this match ranked compared to the other European nights he has experienced since he was appointed to his position in 2011 following QSI’s takeover of the club.
“I think it’s one of the best, if not the best,” he replied, “[It was at] Anfield [and] to win against Liverpool, the best club today in Europe. They finished first in the league phase and are the Premier League leaders. I think it’s something very very special honestly.”
PSG have had some big moments in Europe’s elite competition during Al-Khelaifi’s presidency. For instance, Les Parisiens reached the Champions League final in 2020 when they were defeated by Bayern Munich.
However, this match against Liverpool in particular felt special. The club did not drop their heads after losing the first leg 1-0 despite dominating the evening and approached the second leg with a winning attitude.
It also helps that the game last night was the first time in the club’s history that they had experienced a penalty-shootout in the Champions League.
