Inter Milan did not quite have it all their own way in the second half against Cagliari yesterday.

It was not quite the same as the second halves the Nerazzurri have endured against the likes of Udinese and Parma yesterday.

But there were still plenty of nervy moments for Inter.

After Yann Bisseck had headed home Inter’s third goal, they may well have felt that the three points were just about in the bag.

However, if Cagliari had managed a second goal, it would have certainly set up a tense finale.

Cagliari’s best chance to score late in the match came from striker Roberto Piccoli.

The ball fell to the Rossoblu striker in the box, and he placed his effort into the top corner of Yann Sommer’s goal.

However, that was just the area that defender Stefan de Vrij was covering.

And the 33-year-old didn’t hesitate to put his body on the line. He headed Piccoli’s effort away from danger.

After the match, de Vrij commented that “it was an important block.”

“If it had gone to 3-2, anything could have happened,” he continued.

“But at 3-1, we were able to manage the result better.”

De Vrij added that “we all know each other.”

“We’ve been playing each other for two years,” added the former Lazio defender. “Everyone knows what they have to do, it’s a great group.”

Then, de Vrij gave his thoughts ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Bayern Munich. “We got a huge win in the first win,” he said. “Now we’ll prepare as much as we possibly can.”

“We’ll do everything we can to go through to the next round.”
