Lazio have been dealt a new injury blow as Elseid Hysaj could be out for a while after picking up a thigh injury.

The 31-year-old fell to the ground in agony during Monday’s Serie A contest against Cagliari. The full-back had to be assisted by members of the medical team while leaving the pitch, as he could hardly place his foot on the ground, and told his teammates he felt a big tear. Hence, the initial signs wer far from encouraging, and this has now been confirmed by the test results.

The official Lazio website released a statement clarifying the player’s condition. The note reveals that Hysaj has sustained a medium-grade thigh injury.

As usual, the official statement didn’t provide a timetable for the recovery, but most sources don’t expect the player to return before at least five weeks, which is a shame considering how the Albanian has only just made his way back to Marco Baroni’s selections after being excluded from the Serie A squad list during the first half of the season.

Selection Woes

Speaking of this list, it remains to be seen if Hysaj’s injury will have any repercussions on Baroni’s choices. The manager surprisingly omitted Luca Pellegrini from the list, replacing him with Toma Basic. But with Hysaj out of action, the Italian left-back’s services could be needed. It should be noted that clubs are allowed to make a couple of changes to the list between now and March 31st.
