We asked Davey Hat-Trick to give us his match ratings and player comments after Newcastle 5 Crystal Palace 0.

Wow! Three days after we played Man Utd off the park, we put in an even better performance to beat Palace 5-0. And Crystal Palace are a better side then manure.

Newcastle had pace, power, talent and desire all over the pitch and could have scored more than they did.

The lads put on an absolute masterclass and looked well worthy of a Champions League place.

This showing ranks alongside the two semi-finals against Arsenal and the final against Liverpool as one of our best displays of the season. Everyone seems to be hitting top form at just the right time and no team will fancy playing us.

Credit to everyone in black and white and credit to the coaching staff – I don’t believe we could have played any better had Eddie been on the touchline

Nick Pope – 9

Conceded a penalty which no one in the stadium saw and which VAR decided was ‘clear and obvious’ after a 20-minute meeting.

Redeemed himself by out-psyching Eze, who ended up trickling the ball into Pope’s grasp. It was a laughably poor pen but the save prevented Palace from levelling things at 1-1.

Other than that, our keeper looked pretty much back to his best.

Kieran Trippier – 9

Another player whose form dipped a while back but is bang on the money now.

He was efficient rather than spectacular in this game but that’s OK for a defender.

Fabian Schar – 10

Fab was up against Mateta, who is a huge unit and a decent footballer, but he handled him – and anything else Palace threw at him – with ease.

Scored another goal to put us 4-0 up at half time. An imperious display.

Dan Burn – 9

Another good day at the office for BDB.

Got his head on just about everything and had a comfortable 90 minutes.

He’s playing with real confidence right now.

Tino Livramento – 10

When Lewis Hall got crocked, I assumed Tripps would take over left back duties, but putting Tino there has proved a genius move.

He was always pretty good going forward but his defensive performances have improved immeasurably.

Another cracking display.

Bruno Guimaraes – 9

There were times this season when Bruno was guilty of dwelling on the ball too long, as well as trying passes that weren’t on.

Recently, he’s been keeping things much simpler and the team is all the better for it.

Palace’s midfield couldn’t get near him.

Sandro Tonali – 10

I’m running out of superlatives to describe Sandro Tonali.

Sometimes it looks like there are two of him on the pitch – he looks like he’s everywhere at the same time.

Nearly always makes the right decision and almost never gives the ball away.

His vision is superb, as evidenced by his assist for Barnes’ goal.

He has to be one of the best midfielders in the world.

Joelinton – 9

A similar display to the one we saw against manure.

Controlled his aggression (a) to avoid a costly tenth booking, and (b) to the benefit of the team.

Looked annoyed to be subbed off but I think that was because he wanted to stay on and chin Lerma, who had just flattened Fabian Schar.

Jacob Murphy – 10

Regular readers will be glad to hear that the bloke two seats to my right still thinks Murphy is rubbish, although he did concede he’s ‘had a canny season’.

In truth, he’s done much more than that.

He put some lovely crosses into the box that we were a quiff or a toenail away from converting.

Schar showed how it should be done but Jacob could have had five assists instead of the one.

Best of all though, he took a leaf out of Tonali’s book, and rifled in a wonderstrike from a tight angle to open the scoring.

Player of the Match for me.

Alexander Isak – 9

I think Isak was getting a bit fed up that we were banging in goals for fun, and he wasn’t scoring any of them.

As he did against manure, he came close a couple of times, before he eventually scored with a typical Isak finish.

To me, he is more likely to score when he doesn’t have a lot of time to think about things.

Harvey Barnes – 10

There were times earlier on in the season when Barnes looked surplus to requirements for me.

Right now, he’s one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Worked well with Tino again, scored another goal after a driving run, and assisted Guehi’s own goal.

Joe Willock – 6

None of our subs made much of an impact, but when your team is leading 5-0, you don’t really need them to. Joe helped to keep things under control.

Anthony Gordon – 6

Tried to inject some energy into proceedings but became a bit frustrated when things didn’t click.

Sean Longstaff – 5

Didn’t really get up to the pace of the game

Callum Wilson – 6

One promising run at the Palace defence but otherwise quiet.

Emil Krafth – 6

I hardly noticed him – that’s not a bad thing for a defender.
