Eddie Howe says Newcastle have not received adequate offers for Juventus target Lloyd Kelly and insists the defender’s ‘challenge is to try and work his way into the team.’
Juventus have already signed Alberto Costa from Vitoria Guimaraes and are waiting for Renato Veiga, who is expected to land in Turin on Saturday to complete a loan move from Chelsea.
Nevertheless, the Bianconeri are working on a third defensive reinforcement in the January transfer window and Newcastle’s Kelly is among their targets.
Newcastle head coach Howe spoke about the defender’s transfer status during a press conference on Friday.
“I’ve seen a little bit of the speculation on Lloyd. We’ve certainly not had any bid anywhere close to making the club make a decision on that,” said the Newcastle boss via Chroniclelive.
“Lloyd’s an integral part of what we’re doing from my perspective. His challenge is to try and work his way into the team. He’s only just arrived, so I think he’s got a lot to achieve here.”
Juventus were already interested in Kelly when the Englishman joined Newcastle on a free transfer from Bournemouth last summer.
Kelly has made 13 appearances across all competitions with Newcastle this season, providing one assist.
Another familiar face in Turin, Jean-Clair Todibo of West Ham, has emerged as a potential target for Juventus in the January window.
