Newcastle United, as measured up against all the other Premier League teams.
How do we gauge it?
Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning!
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…
We are now five months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of 16 January 2025):
18 and 2 Liverpool
17 and 5 Newcastle United
13 and 5 Forest
12 and 5 Chelsea
12 and 7 Man City
12 and 7 Villa
11 and 11 Tottenham
10 and 5 Bournemouth
9 and 6 Fulham
9 and 6 Brighton
9 and 8 Palace
9 and 9 Man U
9 and 11 Brentford
8 and 11 West Ham
6 and 14 Wolves
6 and 14 Leicester
5 and 10 Everton
5 and 17 Southampton
4 and 11 Ipswich
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are now the second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches.
Liverpool have won just one more domestic match this season, than Eddie Howe’s side!
Newcastle now having won two more matches than Arsenal, four more than Forest, as well as five more than Man City and Chelsea.
United made it nine victories in a row on Wednesday night.
Up next, a Premier League home games against Bournemouth, then another away at rock bottom Southampton.
Not so long ago, some Newcastle United fans had been wanting Eddie Howe sacked…
The media (and some Newcastle fans) still making out that it had been some kind of recent NUFC crisis, yet the last sixteen United matches (all competitions) over the course of twelve weeks, have seen twelve wins, two draws and only the two defeats since October.
