Newcastle United join hunt for Espanyol star | OneFootball

One of the Premier League’s leading clubs have joined a host of suitors in the race for the signature of Espanyol star Joan García.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Newcastle United as the outfit in question.

Spaniard Joan has for his part been arguably the standout shot-stopper in all of La Liga across the season to date.

Still just 24, Joan has long been hailed for his remarkable reflexes and spectacular save catalogue, enough to pique the attentions of some of European football’s leading clubs.

Last summer, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal expressed a keen interest in the Espanyol youth product’s signature.

The Gunners remain hot on the trail of the goalkeeper ahead of the upcoming transfer window, eager to bring Joan in to compete with current no.1 David Raya.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish press is anything to go by, then another of England’s top clubs look ready to compete for Joan’s services, too.

As per MD:

‘Newcastle United, as market specialist journalist Ángel García reported, and this newspaper was able to confirm,’ are ready to compete for Espanyol’s no.1.

The Magpies are on the lookout for reinforcements between the posts, with Joan considered the ideal profile for Eddie Howe’s squad.
