Neither Chelsea or Como have made contact with Kevin De Bruyne over a potential transfer despite reports this week.
De Bruyne will leave Manchester City as a free agent in the summer after the Citizens opted against offering the midfielder a new deal. The 34-year-old will depart the Etihad as arguably City’s greatest-ever player, having been an integral part of their modern success.
The Belgium international has won 14 major trophies with City and ranks second for all-time Premier League assists. De Bruyne admitted he was surprised not to receive a new deal and believes he is still capable of performing at the highest level.
Chelsea have been linked with a shock move to bring their former midfielder back to Stamford Bridge. De Bruyne failed to make an impact in West London during his first spell before flourishing after leaving Chelsea. Ambitious Serie A side Como, who are under the management of Cesc Fabregas, have also also named as suitors.
However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that neither side has made contact with De Bruyne’s camp. Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire have submitted a proposal that ‘remains on the table’. De Bruyne has also been linked with joining up with Lionel Messi at MLS franchise Inter Miami.
Asked last week about his future, De Bruyne said: “I’m open for anything. I have to look at the whole picture. I’m looking at sportive, family, everything together, what makes the most sense for me and my family.
“I don’t know what that is, because it depends on when you speak to people and what they say about projects or something. Like I said, I still feel like I can play at a good level, but then after I’ll have to make a decision once I really know a little bit more.”
