Theo Hernandez’s condition has caused some alarm in view of Saturday’s game against Juventus, and Didier Deschamps has offered an update.
Theo would obviously have liked to have joined Mike Maignan in leading France out at ‘his’ stadium San Siro last night, but a knee issue forced him to watch on from the sidelines.
What filtered from Milan’s side was that it was merely a precautionary measure from Les Bleus, who ended up winning the game 3-1 to top the group thanks to a brace from Adrien Rabiot.
After the game Theo was pictured with Sandro Tonali and Daniel Maldini alongside Maignan, but now all attention turns to the weekend’s crucial clash against rivals Juventus.
Deschamps spoke in the mixed zone at San Siro following his side’s victory against the Azzurri and he was asked about how Theo is, with his comments relayed by MilanPress.
“He has already played the first match not being 100%, he is not in the best of his condition, today I left him alone because it was better this way. Theo is an excellent player even if he is not at the same level as in previous years, he plays a lot and it can happen,” he said.

“There are those who talk about Mbappé, everyone can have moments like that, even for the team. I spend a lot of time with the players and with Theo who has been with us for many years.
“It is important to compare and understand, physical tiredness has always been there, psychological tiredness is more difficult to measure. They have three games a week, in some periods everyone has bad moments, and when it happens I am the first to keep my confidence high.”
