Sky journalist Manuele Baiocchini has claimed that AC Milan view Friday’s game against Lecce as the start of a new season after the derby win against Inter which raised spirits.

After six derby defeats in a row, Milan finally tasted victory against Inter on Sunday night at San Siro as Matteo Gabbia became the hero for the red half of the city, and in truth it was an excellent performance that not many were expected.

Paulo Fonseca made the bold decision to change formation and load up with a four-man front line, something that certainly drew a mixed reaction from the fanbase who pondered whether it was the right move. As we broke down in our tactical analysis, it worked a treat.

Speaking live from Milanello for Sky, Baiocchini took stock of Milan’s progress as they resumed training ahead of the match against Lecce on Friday evening, with his comments relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“Training resumed this morning. Faces were more serene, more relaxed, even though we had already spoken about serenity in the last few days of last week, because Milan were preparing for the derby like this,” he said.

“Regardless of the criticism, regardless of what had been a really complicated start to the season, it seemed like we were living in a situation of extreme normality and tranquility, which was then seen on the pitch with a Milan that faced Inter head on and tried from the 1st to the 90th minute to win the match.

“The match against Lecce is now being prepared, focus after the joys of the derby immediately moved precisely so as not to nullify all the good work done. Now a new season begins for Milan, where many points will have to come in the league especially in the so-called easiest matches on paper.

“The Rossoneri want to give continuity to the enthusiasm, the victories and the obtaining of points in the standings.”
