Official: 18-year-old Barcelona defender renews contract until 2029 | OneFootball

FC Barcelona are completely devoted to ensuring that the team they create is one ready to take on every challenge possible. Already this season, Hansi Flick’s side has proven time and time again that they are up for any challenge. However, despite the promising present, even the future must be addressed at Barcelona.

To do that, the club has constantly been working on renewing their prominent players for the future. First came the contract extension of Ronald Araujo after his links to Italian side Juventus, and soon after the Golden Boy duo of Pedri and Gavi also ended up putting pen to paper.

Now, the next in line was reportedly Pau Cubarsi, the 18-year-old Spanish defender who is seen as a foundational player for Barça’s future. As per Fabrizio Romano, he was set to renew his contract until 2030 following the agreement that was reached last year.

Officially, the extension has now been confirmed by the club but until 2029 instead. The Spaniard has put pen to paper with Barcelona at the offices of the club, and club president Joan Laporta was present there alongside Rafa Yuste and Deco, as well as the player’s parents.

This new deal will now see Cubarsi remain with Barcelona until he reaches the age of 22, by which point he will be regarded as a veteran of the club considering how young he was when he started. Ultimately, ensuring Cubarsi’s continuity is a massive achievement considering the future plans of Barcelona.

In terms of young defenders, it simply does not get much better than the young La Masia talent. Always a guarantee on the ball, his composure and maturity exceed those of any other player his age and that is exactly why he is such a pivotal piece in this Barcelona team.

As for other players such as Frenkie de Jong, Deco has already stated that his issue will be addressed at the right time. For now, Barcelona can continue to take pleasure in the fact that yet another key wonderkid has renewed his contract with the Catalan outfit.
