Como 1907 have announced the €16,5m signing of Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret (24). The former France U21 international completed a medical on Sunday and signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Serie A promoted side. Caqueret has suffered from dwindling first-team playing time and opportunities this season as OL head coach Pierre Sage mostly relied on Nemanja Matic, Corentin Tolisso, Jordan Veretout or Tanner Tessmann to anchor Les Gones’ midfield.

Como manager Cesc Fabregas has reportedly played a key role in luring Caqueret to the Italian club. “Maxence is a versatile player and can dictate the tempo of the game”, the Spaniard said. “His experience at the highest levels of European football will help to strengthen the core of our squad. I’ve known him and followed his career for a while and we’re so happy to have him join us.”

Caqueret added leaving his formative club was a big step. “It’s something new, but I’m ready for it. I’m excited and can’t wait to start this new adventure. I had the chance to speak with the coach, Fàbregas. He convinced me straight away and explained the project very well. Knowing his incredible career as a midfielder also played a big role in my decision.“
