Official Newcastle United injury update from Eddie Howe ahead of Brighton on Sunday – 28 February 2025:
Sven Botman – Eddie Howe had said he was close to returning ahead of the Liverpool match. Now this morning the Head Coach stating he expects the defender to return to training today. With the possibility of returning to the matchday squad so long as training goes ok these next two days.
Joelinton – Exactly the same for the midfielder as Botman. Eddie Howe had said he was close ahead of Liverpool, now expected to return to training this morning and so long as no setbacks, could be in Sunday’s squad.
Callum Wilson – Eddie Howe stating that the number nine is fine after his clash of heads and cut eye in the Liverpool game and available for Sunday.
Alexander Isak – The big one. The United boss had said after Liverpool that he was confident there was no big issue, after the striker was said to have a slight groin problem that caused him to miss Wednesday. Now on Friday, Eddie Howe declaring that it was indeed a case of simply no risks taken in midweek,, at such an important stage of the season. That Isak will be looked at today. With Howe adding that if his star striker is fit, he will play against Brighton. After Sunday, there is then an eight day gap before West Ham away in the Premier League.
As for Jamaal Lascelles, Eddie Howe revealed ahead of the Forest match that the defender was out on the grass working with the physios. However, it will be towards the end of the season before he could potentially return to action.
So, it looks like only Lascelles definitely ruled out for Brighton, with Wilson fine, whilst decisions to be made on Isak, Botman and Joelinton.
