Last evening, Real Madrid officially announced their final squad for the upcoming Champions League encounter against Manchester City.
However, moments later, the club confirmed that Lucas Vazquez, who was included in the squad, has picked up a fresh injury.
Reports later suggested that the veteran right-back could be sidelined for a period of up to three weeks, while Real Madrid confirmed that he won’t be able to participate against Man City.
In light of Vazquez’s fresh injury, Real Madrid have issued an updated squad that will take on Man City this midweek.
Los Blancos have promptly removed Lucas from the squad and have replaced him with youth player Chema.
This is not a like-for-like replacement considering the fact that Chema is more of a natural midfielder.
Although Lucas, too, is usually regarded as a winger, he has spent a large part of his career in the right-back position. Chema, to that end, is not available as an option in the right-back position for Carlo Ancelotti.
Reports do suggest that the Italian already has his plan sorted out, as far as replacing Lucas at right-back is concerned, with Federico Valverde all set to occupy the role.
