Rensch joins Roma in a low-cost deal, as his contract at Ajax had been due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season. The two-time Netherlands international has featured predominantly at right-back throughout his time in the Eredivisie, but is capable of covering in a number of roles in both a back four and back three.

He will wear the no.2 shirt during his time at the Stadio Olimpico.

He becomes the seventh Dutchman to sign for Roma, following in the footsteps of previous players Maarten Stekelenburg, Kevin Strootman, Urby Emanuelson, Rick Karsdorp, Justin Kluivert and Georginio Wijnaldum. Roma also had Dean Huijsen last season, but he has opted to represent Spain at international level despite being born in Amsterdam.

“It was not an easy decision to let Devyne go at this time,” Ajax director Ales Kroes said about the transfer.

“As a homegrown player and an undisputed starter, we will certainly miss him here. He was eager to take on this new challenge, and now he has the opportunity to showcase his qualities in one of Europe’s finest leagues. We have wished Devyne all the best and hope he will be just as successful in Italy as he has been here at Ajax.”
