It is always an unfortunate sight to see any FC Barcelona player struggle to establish themselves at the club. Despite being a dream destination for many, the pressure and expectations there are too much to handle for most players. Unfortunately, the same can also be said for certain homegrown players who live and breathe Barcelona.
Ansu Fati’s case is a prime example of this, as recurring injuries and a loss of confidence have left the player completely helpless. Once seen as the future of Barcelona and the heir to the vacant throne left behind by Lionel Messi, the 22-year-old forward is no longer that same promising youngster.
With his sharpness nowhere to be seen and a clear lack of confidence showing up in his performances, Fati seems to have a very bleak reality to face when it comes to his stay at Barcelona. Moreover, it seems likely that this could be his last season at the club.
As highlighted by SPORT, even the player’s camp believes that this was an important year that was wasted for the youngster. Despite the initial hopes of both Barcelona and Hansi Flick regarding a resurgence for the player, it seems that they have now given up as well.
Repeatedly left out of matchday squads, his most recent injury was the final nail in the coffin. Since then, the player has basically been non-existent when it comes to getting opportunities at Barcelona. By April 4th, it would have been three entire months since the player last represented the team on the pitch for even a minute.
Thus, Barcelona are looking to go down a strategic route when it comes to resolving the case of his potential departure. The club wants the player to remain as involved as possible, but they also know that he will have to make certain financial sacrifices if he wants to continue playing in Europe.
Moreover, Barcelona is not completely against the idea of another loan for him as well, despite the ideal scenario being to permanently offload the winger. In the case of a loan, La Blaugrana might look to extend his current contract to then gradually reduce his salary, which is reportedly a concern for the club at the moment, through an operation that they previously executed with French defender Samuel Umtiti.
Reportedly, there are certain clubs in Europe and particularly in Spain that would be interested in the prospect of signing Fati. Moreover, the club and his agent Jorge Mendes have also looked at more financially lucrative markets such as Qatar, UAE, and Dubai as well.
At this point in time, Fati’s reality at Barcelona is simply one in which he holds little to no importance. With a lot of competition already present for the forward positions, the Spaniard is essentially at rock bottom right now even when it comes to the pecking order.
A departure now seems likely, and Barcelona will try to execute it as respectfully as possible. The player, still only 22 years old, needs regular playing time and importance to grow and hopefully rekindle the fire that allowed him to shine before his injuries took over.
