Pellegatti questions where Milan go from Coppa Italia defeat: “Problem is at the top” | OneFootball

The players on the pitch physically lost the game yesterday, but it seems the blame for many lies with the AC Milan management.

Losing the Coppa Italia would not be such an issue had Milan not made it one. In many ways, the problems of last night are the problems of the season built up and put into one final chance. A chance that was not taken.

With the Rossoneri out of the Champions League places – and let’s not speak about the Scudetto – the Coppa Italia stood as an opportunity to resolve the season’s woes. Another trophy and European football, which would have been taken, even if not the ideal.

There were no signs of that happening though, and instead, the Diavolo crumbled under the pressure. So, with the season done, thoughts are already starting to turn to next season, and there is a fear already lingering.

Today, Carlo Pellegatti has unpacked the situation a little whilst speaking about what must change, and his words to TMW have been transcribed by Milan News.

“How do we start again? From the same people who brought Milan to this situation. They used the word failure, we have to start from them but with many question marks.

“Have they understood their mistakes? Are they ready to take a step back? I am not sure about this, they must radically change their way of acting, they must take on a less presumptuous role, be more humble.

“If that is the case, there will be a restart. Who they will take as sporting director and coach are other questions. If they take a ‘puppet’ sporting director, given that it is the club that decides, then… the facts will speak for themselves.

“Changes? Yesterday’s match showed that there are some shortcomings. The team did not play well, but the performances against Venice, Genoa and Bologna were like this. The problem is at the top, in the club. Everything starts from there.

“Conceicao and Fonseca have been left quite alone in their difficulties, the sporting director must be the one who goes to mediate a situation between the coach and the players, help a technician in difficulty.

“If you don’t start from that, nothing changes. Today the only man in command is Giorgio Furlani. If he has learned from his mistakes, an important sporting director and coach will arrive, otherwise… Exodus? The players look at the situation, if they don’t see improvements, planning, they leave.”
