Ibrox Noise

There is no doubt the Philippe Clement reign at Ibrox has sunk something into ‘abysmal’ territory.
Yes, thanks to an opportunistic Cyriel Dessers finish Rangers took all 3 points against Hearts, but there wasn’t a fan, not even the Happiest Clappiest Rangers supporter who believed the side was remotely convincing against Neil Critchley’s side.
It was, in a word, appalling, and once again the Belgian manager bewildered fans with his absurd team selections, bizarre tactics and rotten subs.
As we reported at the time – the bonkers world of Philippe Clement goes on.
And that’s the nub of the matter here – despite doing a lot better in Europe, the ex-Genk boss clearly, after over a year of being manager at Ibrox, still isn’t grasping the domestic game here, and while Rangers got the 3 points, it certainly wasn’t with any panache.
And that has about summed up this season under him.
Even the ‘give him a chance ffs’ and ‘they need time ffs’ and ‘just support the team and manager ffs’ patter has completely dried up among fans, and despite Ibrox Noise preaching this since earlier this year, fans at large now have stopped hurling ‘tim site’ at us and are now pretty much converted.
Clement is staggeringly inept, and we don’t need to quote all the instances of yesterday’s match alone to convince anyone of the merits of our claims.
To struggle against the second bottom side, themselves in pretty dire form, twice this season, once being the opening day of the campaign of course, a side Rangers used to have a convincing Indian sign over, really was how far we’ve slumped.
Hearts overall actually looked better than Rangers, dictating play, while only the width of the post stopped them taking a point or more from Govan. Rangers’ continuing plummet into utterly rank mediocrity under this boss is hugely concerning.
It’s clearly not going to change – Rangers can’t afford to fire him, we’ve discussed this a hundred times, we don’t have £6M spare, and we doubt we even have half of that.
So unless Clement resigns, which we can’t see happening, we’re stuck with him.
Which means many more afternoons and evenings where fans grind their gears in rage over baffling team selections, and the sight of the hapless James Tavernier at RB, not to mention the inexplicable arrival of Kieran Dowell with 5 minutes to go.
Nothing seems to be able to change.
Rangers can’t get a takeover because we don’t have an owner as it is, something we’ve discussed many times here on Ibrox Noise, and we can’t fire the manager because it’s too expensive.
Unfortunately, the way things are right now are the foreseeable future.
In Europe this team (as Rangers always do) can do something – something in our DNA now from what Steven Gerrard built in 2018 just shines in the Europa League.
But league-wise, forget it. Clement will never get it.
