Inter fell to a third consecutive defeat across all competitions, put to the sword by Matias Soulé’s winner, which earned Roma all three points at San Siro.
The Nerazzurri handed Napoli a huge chance to leapfrog them and take the lead in Serie A just four games from the end of the season, with yet another bleak display that raises further concerns ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash at Barcelona.
Football Italia were among the accredited media at San Siro – here are the player ratings.

Inter: Sommer 6; Pavard n/a (14′ Bisseck 6), Acerbi 6.5, Carlos Augusto 5.5; Darmian 5 (63′ Dumfries 6), Frattesi 5 (80′ Correa 5.5), Calhanoglu 5.5, Barella 5.5 (80′ Zielinski 5.5), Dimarco 5 (63′ Zalewski 6); Lautaro Martinez 5, Arnautovic 5.5.
Best Inter player: Acerbi 6.5 – The only Inter player able to keep a clear head while the rest of the team crumbled around him, he prevented Dovbyk from making the defeat even heavier in the second half, with Roma free to attack an exposed Nerazzurri field.
Lowest Inter rating: Dimarco & Darmian 5 – It now feels like a long time ago when Inter could rely on their wing-backs as their most dangerous weapons. Unfortunately for them, those same areas of the pitch have now become their biggest problem, due to a combination of an almost non-existent attacking threat and repeated lapses in containing the opposition. Although they have different status within the Inter squad, both Dimarco and Darmian were calamitous against the Giallorossi.
Inter coach: Simone Inzaghi 5 – Fatigue alone cannot fully explain why Inter seem to have lost their spark. While their resilience and ability to react to setbacks have long characterised their spirit, it seems they never truly bounced back after conceding that late winner to Bologna through Riccardo Orsolini. Inter went 65 minutes without troubling Mile Svilar from open play, which probably says it all. However, the fact that this is happening in the final stretch of the season, with the most important points and goals at stake, is perhaps the most worrying sign of all.

Roma: Svilar 6; Celik 6.5, Mancini 6, N’Dicka 7, Angelino 7; Pellegrini 6 (68′ Pisilli 6), Cristante 6, Koné 6.5 (68′ Gourna-Douath), Cristante 6; Soulé 7.5 (86′ Rensch n/a); Shomurodov 6 (58′ Baldanzi 6), Dovbyk (86′ El Shaarawy n/a)
Best Roma player: Soulé 7.5 – Deployed in a deeper role, his contribution was key to adding quality to his side’s build-up and made him extremely hard to track for the Inter defenders. He looked simply unstoppable at times, and his cool finish was a huge blow from which Inter never managed to recover. On top of that, he perfectly understood how the game would shift in the second half and adapted brilliantly to a more defensive role with great commitment.
Lowest Roma rating: Pellegrini 6 – In a first half where Inter left significant gaps to be attacked, he was poorly involved (18 touches), and his ball management was questionable and not particularly effective.
Roma coach: Claudio Ranieri 7 – Soulé’s positioning was a fine tactical intuition that added offensive unpredictability to an already confident and solid side. The fact that Roma’s last Serie A defeat came in late December 2024 would require no further explanation, but the way they performed at San Siro, fully exploiting a side going through a difficult period, was an impressive display of their maturity.
