Player Ratings: Trossard Shines as Arsenal Dominate Ipswich with Four-Goal Win

Arsenal travelled to Portman Road on Sunday and delivered a performance that was as ruthless as it was composed, sweeping aside ten-man Ipswich Town with a 4-0 win in the Premier League. For Mikel Arteta’s side, it was a return to domestic dominance following their midweek exploits in Madrid. For Ipswich, the result only tightened the grip of relegation anxiety.
What surprised many before kick-off was Arteta’s decision to field such a strong XI, despite a taxing Champions League clash earlier in the week. Yet it proved justified. From the outset, Arsenal asserted control, pressing with purpose and precision. Ipswich, who have struggled to adapt since promotion, never looked capable of handling the tempo.
Leandro Trossard opened the scoring with typical efficiency, before Gabriel Martinelli doubled the advantage with a well-timed finish — both inside the opening half-hour. It was during this early spell that the game veered sharply in Arsenal’s favour.
Leif Davis was sent off for a reckless challenge on Bukayo Saka, a tackle that left the winger in visible discomfort and Davis in no position to protest. The referee’s decision was met with little resistance.
With a two-goal cushion and a numerical advantage, Arsenal managed the game with calm assurance.
The second half was about control and conservation. Trossard again found the net after a delightful reverse pass from Declan Rice, highlighting the Belgian’s intelligent movement and lethal finishing.
Arteta introduced youth and experience in equal measure as the game wore on. One of those young faces, Ethan Nwaneri, rounded off the performance with a late goal — a deflected effort that summed up Arsenal’s afternoon.
It wasn’t just about goals. Arsenal’s midfield, marshalled by Martin Odegaard and anchored by Rice, dominated proceedings. The Gunners played with fluency, always appearing one step ahead.

While Arsenal’s win was expected, Ipswich’s decline continues to cause concern. Davis’ red card was avoidable, and although Sam Morsy worked hard in midfield, the hosts were outplayed in every department.
Ipswich’s Premier League return had its early moments, but results like this reflect a wider gulf in class. Relegation now looks more like a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’.
