Bild reports that there is a possibility that Ralf Rangnick could replace Sebastian Kehl and become the new sporting director of Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Rangnick is no longer satisfied with his role as head coach of the Austrian national team due to conflicts with the people in charge. Rangnick was also a topic in the winter for Dortmund as they looked to replace Nuri Şahin.
The former Leipzig director can imagine becoming sporting director at Dortmund, and within the club, he is also valued for his ability to build a squad. However, what is unlikely is that he will not be taking on a dual role as head coach and sporting director.
What is clear within Dortmund is that things cannot go on like this, and something needs to change in the summer. Bild also reports that elsewhere, Lars Ricken is planning more uncomfortable moves, and it cannot be ruled out that Matthias Sammer will be removed from his role as advisor. At the end of the season, an analysis meeting will take place, headed by the outgoing Hans-Joachim Watzke, and decisions will be made on the appointment of people in management positions as well as the head coaching question.
When it comes to the head coach role, Dortmund would like to continue with Niko Kovac. During his brief spell in charge, he has made the team more defensively sound, and they are creating more in front of goal. However, they currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga, and if results do not improve, it will be hard to justify keeping Kovac.
If Dortmund do eventually decide to sack the Croatian, it will happen directly after the end of the Bundesliga season, and a different coach will be in charge for the Club World Cup.
